The Minister of Finance, Hon. Ambassador Khamis Mussa Omar (MB), has commended the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) for its great success in collecting government revenue, a move that contributed to the economic recovery and implementation of development projects in the country.
Speaking at the opening of the TRA Half-Year Performance Review Meeting for the 2025/26 Fiscal Year held at the Arusha International Convention Centre (AICC), Hon. Ambassador Khamis said that TRA collected 18.77 trillion shillings during the period July to December 2025, equivalent to 103.7 percent of the target of 18.10 trillion.
He added that in December alone, TRA set a record by collecting 4.13 trillion shillings, the highest level since its inception.
He noted that these achievements are due to effective policies and reforms in revenue collection systems under the Sixth Phase Government led by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Hon. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, especially the use of modern technologies in tax administration.
For his part, the President of the Tanzania National Chamber of Commerce (TNCC), Mr. Vicent Minja, said an enabling business environment requires fairness and equity in tax payments, citing the informal sector as a major challenge that causes unfair competition.
“We believe that the tax base will increase if the private sector is fully involved. Close cooperation between the Government and the private sector will enable businessmen to succeed and pay taxes voluntarily,” said Mr. Minja.
He stressed that TNCC is ready to collaborate with TRA to implement the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed, with the aim of expanding the base of taxpayers, increasing Government revenue and facilitating the reduction of tax rates to increase the competitiveness of Tanzanian businesses in regional and international markets.
